What are the differences between tungsten alloy and titanium alloy?

The highest hardness of "hard alloy" in the tungsten alloy category is between 8-9M (Mohs hardness standard), second to diamond (10M). Some data shows that it is between HRA88 and 90, which can be converted to around HRC80

Hard alloy cutting tools have a cutting speed 4-7 times higher than high-speed steel, and a tool life 5-80 times longer. Manufacturing molds and measuring tools, with a lifespan 20-150 times longer than alloy tool steel. Able to cut hard materials of around 50HRC. Moreover, the thermal hardness of hard alloy is high, and it can still maintain 60HRC at 900-1000 ℃. However, hard alloy cutting tools themselves are difficult to machine due to their high hardness and brittleness, resulting in high processing costs.

The hardness of titanium alloy HRC28-33 is characterized by its light weight. The density of titanium alloy is generally around 4.51g/cm3, which is only 60% of that of steel. Some high-strength titanium alloys exceed the strength of many alloy structural steels. Therefore, the specific strength (strength/density) of titanium alloy is much higher than that of other metal structural materials, which can produce components with high unit strength, good rigidity, and light weight. The engine components, framework, skin, fasteners, and landing gear of the aircraft are all made of titaniumalloy. In addition, titanium alloys have many advantages such as good corrosion resistance, low temperature performance, high chemical activity, good biocompatibility, and low thermal conductivity and elasticity.

In summary, tungsten alloys have a higher hardness than titanium alloys, and they have their own characteristics and advantages. They will have different advantages in different performance indicators.

1、 Different appearance colors and components

1. Black tungsten steel alloy is another form with different colors commonly used in gray. In addition, tungsten carbide usually only has a black color. Tungsten carbide, cobalt carbide, niobium carbide, titanium carbide and tantalum carbide are common components of tungsten steel.

2. Titanium steel has a bright appearance and is a special type of steel that is harmless to the human body. It has the same luster and texture as titanium, with the main components being Fe, Cr, Ni, Mo, and no titanium at all.

2、 Different performance

1. Tungsten steel (hard alloy) has a series of excellent properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, good strength and toughness, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, especially its high hardness and wear resistance. The hardness can reach 89-95HRA, which remains basically unchanged even at 500 ℃, and still has a high hardness at 1000 ℃.

2. Titanium steel has good corrosion resistance, and its strength and corrosion resistance are only slightly inferior to titanium alloy, with low hardness. Titanium steel jewelry can hardly deform, change color for a long time, and is cheap and high-quality, suitable for the skin.

3、 Different uses

1. Tungsten steel is commonly used in high-precision machining, high-precision tool materials, lathes, impact drill bits, glass cutter heads, ceramic tile cutters; It can also be used to make rock drilling tools, mining tools, drilling tools, measuring tools, wear-resistant parts, metal grinding tools, cylinder liners, precision bearings, nozzles, etc.

2. Titanium steel is widely used in industries such as marine hardware.
